Security Worker – Licensing Information and Process
Overview
Under the Security Services Act, no individual may engage in any kind of security work or hold him or herself out to be so employed without holding a valid B.C. Security Worker Licence. There are many requirements that must be met before applying for a licence, and conditions which must be met once you receive your licence. The Registrar, Security Programs and Police Technology, is appointed under the act to receive and review licence applications, issue licences, as well as oversee enforcement and compliance. See About Us for more information on the Security Programs and Police Technology Division.

The Guide
A very important resource is the guide “Getting and Keeping your Security Worker Licence”. You can download the guide from Forms and Guide. This guide will help you choose the correct forms and guide you through the various application processes. You can download and print the full guide or just the pages you need. It explains all the necessary steps you need to take before you apply, lists the training and proof of qualifications required, has a quick checklist to help you decide if you are ready to apply, describes all the documentation you need to send in, where to get forms, how to complete them, and how to submit your application packages. Sending in an application package that is incomplete in any way will delay the process – your package may be returned to you unprocessed. Use the Guide!
