Legislation
The Security Services Act was passed in 2007 and brought into force, with the Security Services Regulation on September 1, 2008. The act – also referred to as the legislation – and regulation together form the hard rules of law for the Security Industry. These rules must be followed by all security industry licensees, without exception.
The Body Armour Control Act (2009) came into effect on July 1, 2010.
The Armoured Vehicle and After-Market Compartment Control Act (2010) came into effect on February 1, 2011

Policy
Policy fills in the details of the legislation, however unlike the legislation and regulation, policies are not passed by government, but developed and approved by the Registrar of Security Services. Policy provides guidelines that direct the actions of the Security Programs staff in applying the legislation and regulation.
