Security Industry and Licensing

The Security Services Act was passed in 2007 (see news release) to be brought into force, with the Security Services Regulation on September 1, 2008.

The Security Services Act enhances public safety by ensuring consistent and appropriate standards across the security industry. All types of security businesses and security workers are required to hold a valid Security Business or Security Worker Licence under the terms set out by the new act, its regulations, and licence conditions.

For more information see – What's New in Security Licensing.

Note to existing Licensees

If you currently hold a licence under the Private Investigators and Security Agencies Act you are required, when your licence expires, to renew the licence under the Security Services Act. The new application forms are available on this website. The Security Services Act outlines the current licensing requirements. Also, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Code of Conduct outlined in section 14 of the Security Services Regulation.
