MEDIA TOUR OF PEP HEADQUARTERS, DOMSAT UNVIELED

Public Safety Minister John van Dongen, Environment Minister Barry Penner, and Advanced Education Minister/Saanich North and the Islands MLA Murray Coell, are shown the Province's new DOMSAT satellite system during a tour of the Provincial Emergency Program's new facility in Central Saanich. The Ministry of Environment's DOMSAT system will reduce the time needed to retrieve critical data to warn British Columbians about potential flooding.

Environment Minister Barry Penner shows Public Safety Minister John van Dongen how the new DOMSAT system relays river level and snowpack information from monitoring stations to a satellite and then is retrieved by River Forecasting computers. This new system allows this process to occur in real-time.
