All licensees are responsible for knowing and following the rules set out in the Liquor Control and Licensing Act and Regulations, and the specific terms and conditions of their licence.
Liquor inspectors conduct regular inspections of licensed premises to make sure they comply with the Act and Regulations, and with their licence terms and conditions. These inspections may be done without notice to the licence holder, at different times and on different days both during, and beyond, the operating hours of an establishment.
The local police also have the authority to inspect your premises at any time. They will look particularly for anything that may lead to a disturbance within the community or that could threaten public safety — including, if you are selling your products on-site, noise, overcrowding, drunkenness and minors in possession of alcohol. If the police think that you are not following the law, they may fill out a Licensed Premises Check form describing the problem. They will provide a copy to you and send another to the branch for follow-up. The branch may choose to take further enforcement action as a result of the LPC.
In addition, your local liquor inspector may ask to see your records, liquor, and other items related to the running of your establishment, to make sure your business practices are in line with the Liquor Control and Licensing Act and Regulations.
