Juvenile Firesetter Manual The Juvenile Firesetter Manual is intended
as an easy-to-use guide. In order to provide a consistent approach to juvenile
firesetting intervention in British Columbia, it is hoped that the fire service
and other interested agencies will use this manual as their primary intervention
tool. Occurrences of juvenile firesetting, whether they are curiosity fire
play or problem firesetting, are a significant problem within our society. With
any incident, there is serious potential for loss of life, injury or property
damage. In most instances, it is the local fire department that concerned parents,
teachers or other caregivers turn to for help. The manual has been distributed
to all fire departments in British Columbia and is intended to provide the fire
service with guidelines for juvenile firesetter intervention. The development
of the manual reflects the level of cooperation that exists amongst the fire service
in British Columbia through the Fire Safety Advisory Council. The results of working
together towards a common goal, with a commitment to reducing injuries, loss of
life and property damage caused by fire, are evident in the quality and content
of this manual. We encourage all departments to utilize the Juvenile Firesetter
Manual and we hope that it will become a valuable resource to the fire service
in British Columbia.
