Here are a few resources to assist community groups to build the capacity of their organization and sustain their response to crystal meth:

  • Voluntary Sector Knowledge Network (VSKN) – www.vskn.ca
    A website designed to help leaders build the capacity of non-profit organizations. It is of specific interest to smaller organizations, especially those that are volunteer-led and those in rural and remote areas.

  • Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coalition (AADAC) – corp.aadac.com
    The guide Community Action on Drug Abuse Prevention PDF File - Adobe Acrobat Required - See Help developed by the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coalition contains information and tips on how to build and maintain a community coalition.

  • US National Community Anti-drug Coalition Institute – www.coalitioninstitute.org
    Assists community anti-drug coalitions through training, technical assistance and educational materials.  Their website offers excellent on-line resources for community coalitions engaged in drug and alcohol prevention efforts. 

  • Attorney General of Illinois – www.ag.state.il.us/methnet/fightmeth/coalitions.htm
    The website offers community action coalitions information and links to organizations that provide community support. The information on the web page is aimed at defining the kind of changes desired by a community and steps to implement a coordinated strategy to achieve those changes.

Here are some links to resources on effective prevention strategies and approaches:

  • Centre for Addictions Research of BC (CARBC) – www.carbc.ca
    The document posted on the CARBC website: Following the Evidence: Preventing Harms from Substance Use in BC PDF File - Adobe Acrobat Required - See Help identifies five strategic directions that international evidence suggests will have the most impact on preventing harms from substance use.

  • Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) – www.ccsa.ca
    CCSA provides national leadership and evidence-informed analysis and advice to mobilize collaborative efforts to reduce alcohol and other drug-related harms.  The report on the CCSA website Substance Abuse in Canada:  Youth in Focus PDF File - Adobe Acrobat Required - See Help examines substance use amongst youth and provides informed guidance on how to address the use and abuse by youth through prevention and intervention activities.

  • Australian Department of Health and Ageing – www.health.gov.au
    The Australian Department of Health and Ageing commissioned a consortium to consolidate national and international evidence on best practices in prevention of substance misuse. The report The Prevention of Substance Use, Risk and Harm in Australia - a review of the evidence PDF File - Adobe Acrobat Required - See Help is a comprehensive study that outlines patterns of substance use and harm, considers risk and protective factors predictive of harmful drug use. The document extensively reviews the evidence available on national and international prevention strategies and approaches.

  • The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime – www.unodc.org
    The United Nations publication, Preventing amphetamine-type stimulant use among young people. A policy and programming guide PDF File - Adobe Acrobat Required - See Help is an evidence-based guide on responding to amphetamine-type stimulant use among young people.  While targeted at policy makers, the guide offers sound advice on the components of effective prevention programming.
