The Criminal Records Review Program is part of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. The program is responsible for processing criminal record checks under the Criminal Records Review Act in order to determine the risk an individual may pose when working with children. The ministry works to maintain and enhance public safety across British Columbia. The portfolio of the ministry includes: corrections; coroners services; law enforcement; crime prevention; victim services; hazard mitigation; emergency management and response; road safety; fire prevention, life safety and property protection; consumer protection; civil forfeiture; and human trafficking. The Solicitor General is also responsible for the Crown corporation – Insurance Corporation of B.C. |

The Branch superintends law enforcement functions in British Columbia, oversees the private security industry and provides protective public safety programs. |

Security Programs:
- licenses and regulates the security industry, including security guards, private investigators and other security industry personnel;
- conducts criminal record checks on individuals who work with children, as defined under the Criminal Records Review Act, and administers a related process for determination of risk; and,
- maintains the Protection Order Registry to support the enforcement of civil and criminal protection orders.

Criminal Records
Review Program |
The program operates under the Criminal Records Review Act which came into force January 1, 1996. It is the Criminal Records Review Program Deputy Registrar who reviews relevant criminal offences of individuals that fall within the scope of the Act to determine their risk to children.
