Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre is a remand and sentenced facility for inmates of all levels of risk. The facility was opened in 1913 and completely rebuilt in the mid-1980s. Significant renovations were made during the 1990s. The heritage facade and internal courtyard design are unique features among provincial facilities in B.C.

Religious and spiritual programs
Chaplains provide weekly services, ecumenical and interfaith liaison and individual counselling. Native elders provide aboriginal spirituality and cultural awareness and a sweat lodge is located on the grounds.
