National Crime Prevention Centre (NCPC)
The federal government's National Crime Prevention Strategy includes three funding programs. These funding programs include:
- Crime Prevention Action Fund
The Crime Prevention Action Fund supports crime prevention initiatives in communities large and small. The key objective is to support promising practices that address known risk factors and are related to NCPC's priority crimes issues. Priority is given to projects that focus on individuals or groups with multiple risk factors. Capacity building, especially in Aboriginal communities, rural and/or remote areas, will be funded based on need, as part of a broader strategy to address specific risk factors or crimes.
- Research and Knowledge Development Fund
The Research and Knowledge Development Fund supports a range of research activities, demonstration projects, knowledge transfer initiatives and evaluations that: Identify effective and promising community-based crime prevention models in high-crime places and among high-risk populations; Determine the effectiveness and cost-benefits of interventions, the key components of successful programs and the extent to which they can be replicated in other settings across the country; Promote the advancement of high-quality crime prevention projects that are cost-effective and sustainable.
- Youth Gang Prevention Fund
The Youth Gang Prevention Fund invests in communities where youth gangs are an existing or emerging threat and supports initiatives that clearly target youth in gangs or at greatest risk of joining gangs. Priority is given to projects that address specific risk and protective factors associated with youth violence and gang membership and will demonstrate results that reduce and prevent the risks of future gun violence and gang activity.
